On Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at 4:53pm, tragedy struck the island nation of Haiti, Jamaica's neighbour, when a devastating magnitude 7 earthquake leveled much of the nation. The quake was centered near the capital city of 3 million, Port-au-Prince, and estimates are that as many as 100,000 Haitians are feared dead and more than a third of the country's 9 million citizens have been displaced and in urgent need of assistance.
